The Needs

In a difficult housing context in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) characterized by excessive costs, a shortage of housing, inadequate housing size, rising homelessness among asylum seekers, and prohibitive rental market criteria, the Centre francophone du Grand Toronto (CFGT) has been supporting the diverse Francophone community in the Peel region, the City of Toronto, and the York Region in their search for housing. The CFGT has implemented a housing case management model that focuses on the needs of its clients, self-determination through capacity building, and the development of community partnerships in the search for sustainable solutions.

“Without the CFGT’s legal assistance, I would have lost my home. When my income dropped during my cancer treatment, I couldn’t keep up with my payments or the paperwork. Thanks to their quick intervention, they were able to have my alimony adjusted retroactively. Having all these services in one place really made all the difference.”

- CFCT client

“I was alone with my children, without any status or support, and no one helped me understand my rights. Thanks to the CFGT, I was able to renew my work permit, access social welfare and apply for permanent residence. Having all these services in one place gave me a real chance to rebuild our lives.”

“When I arrived in Canada, I was exhausted, traumatized, and unable to plan anything. Thanks to the CFGT’s support—in mental health, legal assistance, and
housing—I was able to recover at my own pace.
Today, I have an apartment, a job, and my application
for asylum has been accepted.”
